River Chieftain who ran the Rajendesinghi yesterday over 1800mts is a live contender for pune derby.
Firstly its rating is 630 which is realyy very good and equivalent of 80 and above.If an opurtunity arises pl advise to see the replay of its run yesterday.
Just to take you thru.River chieftain jumped out slow losing about 3 lengths.Was loafing in the rear in an unsettled manner upto 7F.Caught up with the bunch and was last till 5F racing with the bunch.Then inbetween 1000 to 800 mts began accelerating and was almost 5th racing five off the fence.
Then suddenly lost pace and was dead last 3 to 4 lengths behind the bunch.Last turning for home just between 400 and 250 mts started moving and then the rider(obviously based on instructions ) began to canter and stopped pushing.Then on its own without any effort the horse finishes 4th with its mouth wide open(ran a little green i agree obviously because underprepared) just under 5 lengths on the winner.
The points in favour of it for the Derby are in my opinion.
1.Excellent rating
2.200 mts more to go in the derby
3.Benefit of a run and scope of further fitness and improvement .
4.Like STAR PRESENCE (same Dam) it also looks to be a late warmer which will suit the Derby trip.
5.Lastly the targetted contenders for the nanoli derby should have already had a run.From the results so far vis a vis the Mumbai performers,only VERSAKI ha shad a run and won of course but 2000mts??? for Versaki looks a Question mark.
So watch out for RIVER CHIEFTAIN.
